The real issue is that inflation only accounts hire much more things cost, but not the trend on salaries. If salaries and costs follow the same slope, you’re “even”. The problem is when costs increase at a faster rate than income.

Most people agree to those opt ins, due to a combination of dark patterns and pop up overload.

I have a decent public healthcare, but also a private one from my employer. It’s around 950 euros/year… And I don’t have to pay anything out of pocket for 99% of stuff. I haven’t paid anything in the last 10 years, aside from the medicines which are generally very cheap and some visits for my son (sleep coach and stuff like that)

US health system is a scam.

HOWEVER, I’m seeing enshitification looming. More than once I’ve been recommend unnecessary treatments or out of pocket ones when there were some covered or even free. Last time I went for a dental cleaning they had me locked with a sales person trying to offer brackets.

On a code comment the author wrote “he” somewhere, not sure if referring to a specific person or was used to generally refer to “people”. It could be the author was referring to a trans woman or could be a cis man (haven’t checked).

Somebody did a PR changing that to “they” and the author rejected it and said something along the lines of “not wanting to get political”.

Then backlash started.

Wow, there’s too much to cover here.

I know the authors are tankies. It’s widely known. But:

1. Lemmy is open source, code can be audited for backdoors.
2. The instances can an often do apply patches server side, do even if the original source is clean, the instance can be tampered with. This also apply to ml.
3. Even without backdoors, Lemmy has no encryption whatsoever. Any instance admin can see everything you do and your “private messages”. You can create your instance, federate and watch. It’s actually very possible that LLMs are training with Lemmy because of this.
4. The fact that a tankie designed a social network without encryption is a very telling thing.

In the end, I don’t do PMs and I assume everything I do is never private here or in reddit, so I’ll mitigate what I can.

BTW, I didn’t say they are state sponsored, only that they are pro state sponsored backdoors, meaning backdoors for the government.
