I’m all for all-gender bathrooms, but there MUST be at least two public bathrooms at any given spot. I can’t tell you how uncomfortable it is to take a first date to a museum, both need to use the bathroom, and walk into the single, silent, all-gender bathroom, and try to pretend you can’t hear each other doing your business. I assume gay folks have been struggling with this since the beginning, but y’all should have said something

Ah, I see. If you look up “Github Desktop” online it should have a Linux version. I haven’t actually used it outside of Windows, but I can’t imagine it’s missing committing/pushing to github, that’s the whole point of the app! And yeah, github can be pretty daunting initially, there’s a lot going on and it didn’t feel intuitive to me initially either. I wish I had better advice other than just stick with it, but that’s what I did so I don’t know of any good guides

ffmpeg is one of the things where I prefer the CLI. It’s crazy powerful, and does some insane things in pretty simple commands. I’ve seen a meme that says half the internet is just wrappers for ffmpeg, and I’m inclined to agree.

Also, as an arch user (btw) pacman / AUR are a much better experience than having to hunt down the installers for everything online.

Similarly, the right CLI tools make searching for files across my entire computer much simpler and way faster than I could ever do with a GUI

ifconfig was deprecated in 2009. I got into Linux in the last 10 years and still used ifconfig. Sure, it’s deprecated and no longer included in most modern installs, but you can still download and use it as before. A lot of guides online used ifconfig, so it’s a pretty common package for inexperienced users to download, even if deprecated.

It is kind of crazy how motorcycle/car culture hasn’t really moved off of old-school internet forums. I very rarely need to visit them because I’m not a car guy, but I do think very fondly of them whenever I visit, they remind me of the internet of my childhood

  • 12 year account here, but was accountless for many years before that. Pretty much a lurker on reddit. Here, I don’t post much, but I’ve been trying to add to the conversation as much as possible. I find I get genuine responses from folks, even if we disagree with each other. By the time I left Reddit for the API changes, it had been either jokes, trolls or bots on the biggest subreddits for years, no real genuine discussion anymore.

Not to say it’s perfect in the comments around here, but it’s a lot better than reddit has been for like, 8+ years

This attitude is a huge problem, and is exactly what the billionaire class is wanting.

By pitting you against a group of people you clearly look down on, it stifles your ability to care about a real issue, which is that the ruling class is taking advantage of your peers. You don’t think of them as your peers but they are, since you are both the working class. Even if you are a multi-millionaire, you are much, much closer to being someone making minimum wage than you are to a mutli-billionaire. Hell, even if you were a billionaire you are closer to being someone working minimum wage than you are to a multi-billionaire.

Plus, if they get away with this now, they will do it for something you actually do use eventually, and no one will care about backing you since you were an asshole when it wasn’t effecting you. This is exactly what the billionaire class wants, all us peasants squabbling at the bottom, grandstanding and hating on each other for no reason, while they get to sit at the top, unscathed.
